Enel: ‘without renewables, electricity would have increased by 10-15% more’

“The current increase in electricity comes, almost exclusively, from the increase in gas, which is the real culprit,” said Lanzetta, explaining that the solution to lowering bills is “the use of renewable energy” and “if we had not undertaken the development of renewables ten years ago, the price increase we are experiencing in electricity would still be 10-15% higher”.

Italy imports 90% of this fossil fuel.

“The uncertainty of this market will continue,” explains Lanzetta, “for the summer we will be able to take advantage of the lower price of gas and energy, but this should not make us sleep soundly because in any case the volatility of this market will exist as long as we have 90% of imported gas, on which we have no leverage.”
