In June 2022, according to Monthly_report_June22_Terna, Italy consumed a total of 27.9 billion kWh of electricity, up 2.7 % compared to the same month in 2021.

Renewable energy sources covered 35% of the national electricity demand, 86% of which was met by domestic production and 14% by foreign exchange. In particular, there was a 7.7% growth in production from photovoltaics, which recorded record values in June. This growth is mainly attributable to the commissioning of about 1.5 GW of new plants in the last 12 months.

In the period from January to June 2022, production from photovoltaic sources grew by +9.9% compared to the previous year. Over the first six months, the share of solar energy in total net production rose from 9.9 per cent last year to 10.5 per cent.

Imcei index compiled by Terna, which examines the industrial consumption of so-called energy-intensive companies, recorded a 5.4% drop compared to June 2021. Only the change in the chemicals sector was positive.
